HARRIET MOFFAT June 26, 1908 - December 17, 2009
It is with profound sorrow, that we announce the passing of Mrs. Harriet Moffat, who died on December 17, 2009, in West Los Angeles at the age of 101 years old. Harriet was one of the original founders of the Los Angeles Police K9 Fund, which was incorporated on November 23, 1988. Harriet was the President and member of the West Los Angeles Police (WLA) Boosters for 15 years. In April of 1980, she became aware of the LAPD K9 Pilot Program in Operations-West Bureau. The pilot program was in dire need of funding to support the purchase of police service dogs. She was instrumental in soliciting the support of the WLA Boosters to purchase police service dogs for the LAPD. Harriet recognized the need to continue funding the K9 Unit, which led to the formation of the Los Angeles Police K9 Fund. Today the K9 Unit is comprised of twenty-three canines responsible for City-wide coverage.
Harriet was a positive force within the LAPD and over her many years she was recognized by many Chiefs of Police for her tireless efforts to support the K9 Unit. She will always be remebered and remain in our hearts.
