LAPD METRO K9 30 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

June 1980 - June 2010 - 30 years of K9 Operations. In recognition of the 30 year Anniversary of the Metro K9 Platoon, this year's K9 Awards Dinner were held on September 23, 2010, at the Los Angeles Police Academy. All current K9 handlers and many alumni, family and friends attended the event. The event was a complete success, chronologically capturing the historical evolution of K9 Operations. Awards were presented to prior handlers for acts of heroism and bravery as well as recognizing canines that had been killed in the line of duty. Guest speakers such as the founder of the K9 Platoon, retired Sergeant Mark Mooring, articulated the hardships endured to start this great K9 Platoon. Retired handler Joe Vita also spoke with passion of his experiences in the K9 Platoon. The event marked 30 years of history and honor. The K9 Platoon would like to thank all those who attended as well those who made this event possible.
